Mushroomhead truly reigns from the topmost tier of rock and metal, taking an art that can quickly become repetitive and turning it into a mind-boggling sensation of multiple sounds blending into one astounding taste of ear candy.
The combination of vocals from Mann and Nothing never cease to intrigue me, one rough and the other melodic, but it is their ability to blend their differences so well that stands Mushroomhead out from the rest of the pack.
Overall heavy rock with metal fusion, there are surprises in XIII that will tickle your musical Read the rest of this entry »

Considering that Dragonforce are about to fling a new slab of breakneck-paced melodic metal at the world, I figured it was high time I put down my thoughts on the debut, after having a year to take it in. Obviously, the most striking feature is their sheer speed, matching the velocity of most thrash bands, but infusing it with a keen melodic sensibility. These choruses are some of the catchiest I have ever heard. The production is very top heavy; a little scratchy on the ears at high volumes, but I suspect that the material translates well into a live setting. The guitar solos shred so hotly I’m surprised Herman Li’s guitars don’t burst into flame; but, they can be over the Read the rest of this entry »

The music is very guitar driven, solos are ladden in most of the tracks. Quite heavy at times, quite soft at others. While Heaven Wept aren’t afraid to have a more upbeat riff every now and then. Keyboards are prevalent in a few of the songs though they add to whats already there rather than take away. The songs would still be great without the keyboard prescence. Tom Philips has an amazing voice. He tends to stay in the upper range but doesn’t go so high that he breaches the power metal range. Overall, I highly recommend this album. Unless you hate any band with a vocalist that sounds relatively human you’ll probably love it. Read the rest of this entry »

DT’s new release is a solid disc-filled, 78-minute, journey that should please most fans and shows they still are on top of their game. Their intense musicianship and enduring passion to create great tunes and give it their all shines through on this disc, however, the lyrics still are their weakest link. Although they break no new ground in their musical styling, Portnoy’s vocals, that used to make me cringe because of the sour notes he hit, have improved, or maybe I’m just getting used to them. This should be an “essential recording.” The Dropkick Murphys are one of the most ambitious and talented musical groups still releasing albums. The fact that most radio stations (Or at least the ones in my area) don’t play them is a testament to the shear ignorance of the mass of listeners (I nver listen to the radio.) Whatever is popular plays, even if the bands have little talent or integrity.
The Dropkick murphys, with their seamless infusion of aggressive rock and tradtional irish music, are one of the premier rock bacnd out there today. Their music and their lyrics are both entertaing and insightful. The Read the rest of this entry »

This album also comes with a DVD of a movie Manson made called “Doppleherz”. I really don’t know what to say about the DVD. It’s just plain weird. Manson repeats the same line over and over again and before you know it, your falling asleep watching the thing. I would have perferred to see some behind the scenes kinda documentary, then some bad B-movie of Manson’s. Manson appears, with his band, the two Siamese twin girls, Aria Giovanni the porn star and of course Dita Von Teese- another porn star. The DVD’s not any better then the actual music. Do not get this unless you have the first version. This version has remastered and shortened tracks. I am gonna review the regualr version — I got this CD after hearing the track 11 or “B*tch I am Sexy.” So obviously, I thought it was going to be a funny album. I was very surprised when I started listening to it and it is pretty much like the first Hell’s Pit because it is so dark. There are a couple songs that are flat-out hilarious. But most of the songs are hella sick and scary. Now, i always and always give juggalo albums 5 stars because I have usually loved all the songs on other Psycopathic Records, but even as a HUGE juggalo, I have to say, some of these songs Read the rest of this entry »
