Elbow - The Seldom Seen Kid [2008]

There are few things in life quite so liberating as the opening track on an Elbow album–they’re like airlocks between the plainness of the outside world and the elaborate melancholic heave-ho that you are likely about to submerge yourself in. Jason Mraz - Mr. A-Z [2005]

With his second studio album, the humorously titled “Mr. A-Z,” Jason Mraz has delivered a fine collection of tunes that will solidify his popularity with his dedicated fanbase, yet manages to broaden his horizons in terms of song arrangements and subject matter.

The pensive “Life Is Beautiful” is the opening track, where Mraz makes a series of commonsense observations about life that nevertheless challenges listeners to think outside the box. Lead single “Wordplay,” however, immediately follows, injecting the disc with a shot of levity.

Oasis - Don’t Believe the Truth [2005]

Don’t Believe The Truth is the sixth Oasis studio album-and a very proud success for this group! You get the awesome hit single “Lyla” as well as “Let There Be Love.” It appears they saved “Let There Be Love” as almost the best for last since this is one of the most beautiful songs I personally have ever heard! No longer is Oasis stumbling though setbacks and comebacks-I get the strong sense that they have permanently emerged strong and very memorable with this CD being the proof of it. You still get that classic British guitar pop rock flavor running distinctly throughout. Yet with this CD Oasis finally gives us the strong lyrics (more…)
